Most RJ connectors are RJ45 connectors, used for Ethernet connection, 8P8C, can connect four pairs of twisted pairs, 12mm wide, wider than the RJ11 series. RJ45 connectors are sometimes used for telephone or RS232 connections, as well as for transmitting VGA video signals.

General telephone connector belongs to one of RJ11. It was originally developed by a company in the United States. It was originally called WExW. It has six pins in shape. WE6W uses all six contacts, while WE2W only uses two pins in the middle. It later became one of the RJ series connectors.

RJ11 and RJ14, RJ25 are the same series, size is the same, are 9.5mm wide, but the number of contacts is different. RJ11 has only one pair of contacts in the middle, which can connect a pair of lines, expressed as 6P2C (six position, two conductor); RJ14 uses four contacts in the middle, which can connect two pairs of lines, expressed as 6P4C; RJ5 uses all six contacts, which can connect three pairs of lines, expressed as 6P6C.

Sometimes this connector can also be used to provide low-voltage low-power supply (AC or DC), commonly used PIN2 and PIN5 (black and yellow lines). Generally, RJ11 is used as the general name of the 9.5mm series. RJ11-6P2C, RJ11-6P4C and RJ11-6P6C are used to distinguish the number of contacts. A connector is also used in the telephone to connect the telephone and the handle, called 4P4C (also known as RJ22, and a series with RJ9 and RJ10), with four contacts, 7.5mm wide, smaller than RJ11 feet.

Another 8P8C connector, called RJ61, is used to connect twisted pairs. Because the third and fourth pairs of twisted pairs of twisted pairs in this line sequence are far apart from each other, they will cause large crosstalk, which is not suitable for transmission of high frequency signal such as Ethernet. There is also a RJ48 connector, also 8P8C, which can be used to connect four pairs of T1 data links, each pair of lines can transmit 23 voice paths of time division multiplexing.
