Basic Introduction and Development Course of Connectors

Various electrical connectors are key components in numerous electronic devices, because they can achieve and protect the transmission of electrical signals. From connecting key computer components to connecting wires in the cars we drive, they play a wide range of roles, and they serve different applications. Although some designs are simple, connectors are usually implemented in complex electrical systems. Therefore, connectors must be durable and reliable, and easy to assemble and use. Although not all electrical connectors can withstand extreme environments, a large number of connector specifications ensure that suitable application types can be found for customized devices.

In many industries, connectors are coated with special coatings when they are needed. Contact coatings used in connectors can not only alleviate the environmental corrosion of connectors, but also improve the wear resistance and durability of connectors. It can also maintain the electrical impedance of connectors steadily. Help to improve and use the quality effect of coated connectors.

Specific performance is as follows: 1, to improve mechanical properties of the connector coating; 2, to improve the anti-corrosion function of the connector coating; 3, to improve electrical performance of the connector coating; 4, connector coating and the use of common metal coating characteristics; 5, connector coating and the use of precious metal coating characteristics. And so on.

In many applications, electronic connectors are connected to printed circuit boards while installing other components, which means that connectors must be able to withstand the chemical processes and temperatures involved in the connection process. The introduction of resistant materials to make connectors compatible with the assembly process will increase the cost of the connector system and must be balanced with packaging density requirements.

Electronic connector products can be applied to connector systems in various industries. Effective connector systems should provide sufficient level of contact force, maintain airtight connections at contact interfaces, and help replace particles and oxides during matching cycles. In addition, the relative slip between matching pairs should usually move the particles to one side to expose metallurgy at the contact interface. The balance between contact force and sliding action may have a significant impact on the reliability and cost of the connector system, while the number of contact interfaces may affect the time and the rate of plug-related failure. Increasing the number of contacts or using multi-faceted contact can reduce the risk of failure. Although it may hinder signal capability, the tightness ratio of ground contact to signal contact can further improve the reliability of electronic connectors.

D-series connectors have been widely used for many years. They were originally developed by Cannon in 1952 and are now part of CanT. D-connector has been used in many applications as multi-channel connector, but it is probably the most well-known connector for RS-232 serial link. In fact, D-connectors have been used for serial links on most computers for many years, and today, various types of D-connectors can still be found on most computers.

D-type connectors were originally called miniature connectors, and now they are commonly referred to as D-type miniature connectors. Although these connectors were very small when they were first introduced, after so many years of development in the connector industry, many kinds of precision connector products have been developed and designed in the world, so D-type connectors are no longer considered to be truly miniature connectors.

Type D connectors usually consist of two, sometimes more parallel connection rows. The connector has a D-format metal housing, which not only provides mechanical strength for the connector, but also provides some limited screening. The metal housing of the plug and socket contacts to provide screening. In addition, panel mounting connectors are usually fixed to the panel using nuts with additional threads that allow fit connectors to be fixed to prevent loosening.

In addition, the free connector can have a rear case that provides shielding and can be connected to the cable screen. Or if it's plastic, they can provide protection and strain relief on cables. As expected, the connector with pins is a public D connector, while the connector with pins of sockets is a female connector. The original D-type connector has two rows of pins, and the total number of pins is an odd number. This leads to one pin in the other line of the connector, which generates an e-D shape, which also prevents the incorrect direction of the connector's coordination mechanism.
